Play sound games – A ’Sound Treasure Hunt’ will have your child gathering items around the house all starting with the same letter – and of course, there has to be some ’treasure’ at the end of the game, so be prepared! ’I spy with my little eye’ is another great game if you use sounds instead of the names of letters, and it can be played anywhere.
Read, read and read some more – You don’t need worksheets for this one either, but you may want to join the local library rather than spend a fortune on books that your child outgrows as quickly as they outgrow their clothes! The more you read to your child, with your child, and in front of your child, the quicker they will learn to read, and learn how to enjoy it too.
Young kids can benefit from a writing worksheet because it helps them improve their handwriting skills and at the same time, increase their knowledge. Older kids, on the other hand, can definitely hone their writing abilities and at the same time, ignite a passion for writing that they never would have thought possible if it were not for the help of the writing tool and of course, from your encouragement and prodding.
Providing enough spaces between the lines is also another key. Another tip is to always simplify the instructions. Complex vocabulary can be very misleading and oftentimes, they do add stress to the student. You can keep the worksheet very challenging without making it boring. Be extra sensitive as to whom you are distributing these worksheets. Do not assume that Asian learners, in particular, appreciate the English alphabet. Other learners such as the Chinese, Indians, Japanese, and Koreans do have high regard for their traditional letters and this should be considered at all times. Note that spelling skills, in this case, are simply a challenge for them. Young Asian learners are often taught with their Mother Language first and so preparing worksheets in English requires extra effort in the structure as well as in the presentation.
It includes the basic sounds each letter produces. Kids try to read the words displayed before them. In the First Alphabet worksheet, kids learn how to write the alphabet. And in the First Animals worksheet, kids try to recognize the animals in the picture and learn the names of these animals.
Language Development – Colors are often the first adjectives your child will learn and use. Color is used to describe and identify specific objects, helping your child to learn how to pronounce many different words.
